Maternal – Infant Blood Group Discrepancies and Jaundice

A recent study demonstrated that 94% of newborn infants with blood-type B experience early rise to “significant hyperbilirubinemia”, within the first 24 hours of life, when Mother’s blood type is “O”  A maternal blood-type O is required to provoke this higher risk, and blood type B infants experienced higher rates of significant jaundice than those with blood-type A.
